The Alderpoint Post Office has been in operation in downtown Alderpoint since 1911. It has changed locations twice since the first office was located at Fifth and Main streets. From there it moved down the street to the general store, and then in about 1961 it moved to its present location at the corner of Fourth and Alder streets.
Alderpoint is a small rural community situated approximately 300 miles north of San Francisco, and east "over the hill" from the town of Garberville in Humboldt County. About 230 families are served by the post office.
Thelma Miller has been behind the counter for 12 years as the postmaster and has been with the Postal Service for nearly 30 years. She is almost a lifelong resident of Alderpoint. When she's not in the office, Georgia Hespen fills in.
The hours are from 8 AM to 5 PM. It's closed for lunch between 2 PM and 3 PM.
