HITS Enterprises is closely linked to the Southern Humboldt Unified School District's Schools to Career
Program, which seeks to provide training and job placement for high school
students. Internships with HITS Enterprises are available for students
wishing to learn while they earn.
Still in its infancy, HITS Enterprises hopes to become a student-run Web
production business that will provide employment opportunities for local
students trained in Web design by HITS Academy, and offer free or cost-effective Web production services to schools, nonprofits, and small home-based
businesses. It is also our goal to create a friendly place where local students and community members
can learn Web design and computer basics as well as provide access to basic office services such as fax machines, email, and copiers.
We are currently working to obtain nonprofit status for HITS
Enterprises and are writing grants to secure the funding and support
necessary to move HITS Enterprises to a larger facility. In the meantime we
are available to provide limited Web production services to a small number
of clients.
Some of our current community projects include:
- The Eel River Salmon Restoration Project is a locally based nonprofit
devoted to restoring the health of South Fork of the Eel River so that it
can once again be a viable salmon habitat.
- Community Cornerstone is a local nonprofit that provides living assistance,
training and employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
- Kettenpom Enterprises The Real Estate Guide is a small home-based
business that provides information about local real estate.
- The Mateel Community Center's production of "Its A Dirty Subject" public
service videos on topics of social importance including teen pregnancy,
alcoholism, addiction, child abuse, and date rape.
- Peer Education is a site created to provide teens and parents with
information on socially relevant topics.
- The Southern Humboldt Unified School District site will provide parents,
teachers and students with important information about our schools and
school related programs and events in our school district.
Currently HITS Enterprises is based in the Osprey Learning Center high
school classroom and meets on Mondays and Fridays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, contact Melanie Chausse' at mel@hits.org.
